It’s your right to ask!
Questions you might regret not asking before you book your pet in for boarding (Part 2)
From my 4 years’ experience, managing Pet Station Kennels and Cattery serving more than 1000 of UAE’s pet parents where we take care of 50 pets at a time, I listed 5 questions that, we believe, are important to ask if your service provider didn’t discuss them with you and here are few questions more:
- What qualifications and/or experience the staff have?
It’s important to have a team of animal lovers looking after your pet(s) but definitely not enough. If your pet gets sick, hugs are not the cure! He/she will need medical attention. If your dog is not trained, an experienced/trained handler should be around.. etc.
- What type of pets the kennel accommodates?
Aggressive dogs? Dogs with ticks? No one wants his dog to come home with tiny guests hiding in the hair on the paws called ticks, or his cat coming home with a “mom to be” title.. do you?
- What’s the pets’ daily routine at the kennel :
Walks time, feeding time, exercising hours? Why is that important? This will help you to know what to expect after check-out (Changes in toilet times, eating habits, weight loss..etc. ). If it’s very different from your pet’s routine, you might want to discuss how would this affect your pet and whether it can be adjusted so you do not struggle after the check-out trying to change again
- What is the best way to get in touch with the kennel
With all the communication channels available nowadays, each company and customer has a preferred way to use (phone, e-mail, what’s app,.. etc.). Make sure you are aware of the best way to reach the kennel while your dog is boarding and who is the concerned person to contact (Reception, customer service, boarding incharge, manger..etc.)
- And always feel free to ask WHY?
Whenever you are not happy/convinced with an answer ask “Why” .
Tell us what other important questions you ask before booking your pet in so other pet parents are aware
